Detroit Tigers + Negro Leagues

During the summer of 2023, Rose Gold Design had the honor of designing the Turkey Stearnes Centennial Patch Design for the Detroit Tigers. This design not only pays tribute to a legendary player from the Negro Leagues (Turkey Stearnes) but also serves as a powerful reminder of the rich history and contributions of the Negro Leagues to baseball. Preserving and honoring this history is crucial, and it was an incredible honor to be the creators of this patch.

A year after this design was created, Major League Baseball integrated the stats of Negro Leagues players into their official records, acknowledging their rightful place in baseball history. Knowing that our work is part of this broader movement to celebrate and recognize the achievements of these athletes is deeply meaningful.

Moreover, seeing 15,000 fans receive the jersey with this patch and wear it proudly across the country is profoundly fulfilling. It’s a testament to the powerful legacy of the Negro Leagues and the impact of design in keeping these stories alive for future generations.
